Chris Brown's Michael Jackson Tribute
Sunday was a very special day, as it was the night of the 2010 BET Awards. There was much going on, and the host of the awards show, Queen Latifah made it very interesting with her various acts and clothes.
There were many performances from the biggest artists and BET stars to date. The lineup included those from Alicia Keys, Chris Brown, Diddy – Dirty Money, Drake, Trey Songz, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Ludacris, Marvin Sapp, T.I., Kanye West, Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Eminem, T-Pain, Kim Burrell, Yolands Adams, Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, and Karen Clark Sheard.
The one that was probably most memorable in people’s minds was Chris Brown, who did a tribute to Michael Jackson.
Chris Brown’s Career
So everyone are probably wondering, how will this affect his career? There were many events for Chris Brown last year, the most significant being his abusive actions on Rihanna, who he was dating at the time.
Howard Bragman, who is a veteran publicist and crisis manager said “The question is: Do people think it’s real? If [the audience] bought it as authentic, then it might give him some sympathy, or there will be people who will roll their eyes because they feel like it’s a PR stunt because we live in a cynical world.”
A valid point, but despite Chris Brown’s previous actions, I don’t think this was a publicity stunt at all. Michael Jackson’s passing was a very emotional event, and he touched many people’s hearts including Chris Brown’s. If he did it as a stunt, I do not think he would be able to live with the guilt of that, especially with what he’s been through. He definitely matured over the past few years, and so I think that he’d definitely take seriously the privilege of being able to give tribute to The King of Pop.
Chris Brown’s performance was also top notch, as he danced all of MJ’s moves almost perfectly. I actually almost thought it was Michael Jackson despite the impossibility of it. Chris got very emotional halfway through the performance however, and it definitely did not seem fake. His eyes were full of tears as he tried his best to sing along to Man in the Mirror.
So what do you think? Will Chris Brown’s performance bring good to his career and name?
