So, of course, we get snow most of the time in the UK at the winter, but I have never seen it as bad as this. In fact, it’s so cold that you can see icicles on the street lights. To give you a idea on how damn cold it is out there, look at this satellite picture of the UK, taken on the 7th of January 2010.
What you’re seeing there is (almost) a whole country turned white. Where I live, we had up to 40CM of snow fall on the 5th of January, and further 20 CM fell over the last few days.
Also, in Scotland, on high ground in a nice small village, the tempreture dropped to -22*C! That is mental temperature, and that is about the same temperature in the South Pole as well.
And, the whole country is going into melt down. We’re running out of grit, fast, which means very slippy roads (which means more road-related accidents) Old people can’t get out of their house to buy things, so they are alone and at the risk of starvation or other illness, shops are completely empty, no bread got delivered to our local shop so and we’re nearly out of bread in our house. Also, to top that off, Gas and electricity supplies are being streched to the limit, and people fear the whole country could become under threat from no heating or power.
Of coarse, there is always some good news, we had the whole week off school and we’ve been in the snow.
What’s the weather like where you live? Is it cold?
