Ah, the end of the world. The Mayans predicted it, Chinese monks knew about it, heck even I had a feeling inside. So what happens when human imagination, history, and most importantly science come together? Hollywood awesomeness. 2012 was released last week, I was planning to see it at the day of the premier opening but my plans weren’t put into action, but I finally saw it last night. I had an open opinion about this movie, so please sit back and read my review on one of the biggest movies this year, 2012.
The Plot
Let’s start with the plot. Since I wasn’t able to see the movie first up, I had the chance to hear some things from other people and read reviews. So, who was the idiot that said the plot wasn’t well formed, because I thought it was very great and most importantly included emotion. It really brought you into the story and I’m not talking about the special effects, you really felt the emotions of the actors who by the way did great.
The Accuracy
This goes a bit with the plot, but the whole point of the movie is obviously to show how people would react if 2012 was true. The Mayans are definitely talked about a lot, but there’s also those other theories like the poles shifting, Earth’s crust destabilizing, the Sun’s solar flares becoming bigger and etc. I believe it really added truth to the story, and made me sort of scared that 2012 might actually happen in the real world.
The Effects
This was my biggest appeal for going to this movie in the first place, I mean who doesn’t like to see some famous buildings get smashed? The difference that sets 2012 apart from any other movie like this is that they did it with realness. Some of the effects in fact, were made physically and not on green screen; if it was possible of course. This was definitely just a huge mashup of all the other movies such as Independence Day, Godzilla, and The Day After Tomorrow where destruction is done in a beautiful and damn cool way. If you aren’t into the whole 2012 business, the effects will still be enough for your money.
Everything Else
The main points were made, but this movie definitely includes all the qualities of a good movie that will last forever. Roland Emmerich, the director of this final movie 2012, has definitely went all out. The acting, screenplay, animation, the story plot really does have a long lasting effect on you.
If you haven’t already, check out the trailer that you can watch for a limited time on the homepage and get some tickets to see it this weekend.
